Photoshop Free Tutorial, Photoshop CS3 Tutorial: Curves and Resolution
Here's an excellent Photoshop free tutorial on curves and resolution as part of the free online Photoshop tutorials series.
Let's continue our image preparation with this Photoshop CS3 tutorial on Curves and Resolution. When you have completed your Levels, you can play with the contrast. Bring up Curves (CTRL M). There might already be some Curves presets so give them a test ride. If not, click in the middle of the grid and move that diagonal line up or down for lighter or darker.

Here are some of the presets in Photoshop CS3's Curves function... Increase Contrast

Color Negative

As you will see, the image has also been colour corrected through these processes. When there are people in the image, it will be necessary to add another step to the colour correction -
skin value adjustment.
It gets real fun then. Before saving your edits, change your colour to CMYK and the image resolution. For the latter, bring up the Image Size dialog box, uncheck Resample Image and change the resolution to 220 (in this case, since it's the resolution at which we print our newspaper). Press OK and save the changes at the highest quality of 12.
