It's a good tool in Photomatix's HDR shop - an exposure blender that doesn't slice and dice your photo to shreds! I was having problems arriving at a suitable high dynamic range answer to a composition of autumn leaves and the Trinity Anglican Church in Sussex. I took three exposures and tried to tame the fiery leaves in the resulting HDR image. I even attempted to tone map just two of the darker pix, but to no avail (below).

However, exposure blending saved the day.On the Workflow Shortcuts dialog box, I pressed Exposure Blending and loaded those same two darker exposures.

You can experiment with the five options for Highlights and Shadows, but I found "Highlights & Shadows - Adjust" was the way to go.Next, concern yourself with three sliders. Accentuation or Strength is OK at its default setting of zero. Saturation is a judgement call. Simply decide how rich or bland you want the colours. And finally, for Blending Point, we want to keep your highlights in tact. So basically, the image is darkened. You can lighten it later in post-processing (aka Photoshop). Here is the result...
