Ancient Greek Art and Architecture

Awe-inspiring HDR photos of ancient Greek art and architecture on this page are published thanks to the Creative Commons licence.

The following HDR photo of Art & Icon Studio in Santorini, Greece is by Wolfgang Staudt. http://flickr.com/photos/wolfgangstaudt

Here's an HDR photo of the Church of Livadia, Greece, also by Wolfgang Staudt.

Located on south-western Crete, tiny Livadia is as stress-free as sleepy escapes come. If it's possible to gear down lower than park then it would be here.

This HDR photo of the Church of Timios Stavros (Holy Cross) at the village of Krania in the Aspropotamos region of Trikala, Greece, is by About _neona_ / Natalia. http://flickr.com/people/9679326@N04

It looks as if it is based on an architectural argument: "If you're gonna use one stone, heck, you might as well use 'em all." The church sports a stoned roof and at least a dozen stoned domes.

Another HDR photo is presented here of Greece's Meteora Valley, Greece, by Mike G. K. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mikegk

It's like these giant sandstone pillars are suspended in the air, as the Metéora name suggests. They have been home to monasteries since the 11th century and are on UNESCO's World Heritage List.

This HDR photo of Paestum Ruins, Greece is by Sabrina Campagna. http://flickr.com/people/mar1lyn84

The remains of three, important, Doric-style temples stand in a 25-hectare excavated area of Paestum.
